Cocktail Spotlight: El Pirata
In The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams once described the ‘Best Drink in Existence’: The Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is said to have an effect on the drinker similar to “having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.”
While you can’t order this particular drink in Rincón, much less anywhere on this planet, there is an extremely popular local rum cocktail called ‘El Pirata’, which is both delicious and quite potent in its own right.
It is actually quite famous, and I feel compelled to bring any friends or family who are visiting to have one at the Hotel Cofresi bar. They always enjoy the experience and thank me, even if they wake up the next morning feeling as though they were hit in the head with a small but delicious coconut.
Booking.comIt is actually a pretty simple mix: four kinds of rum, evaporated milk, fresh coconut water and a light sprinkle of cinnamon. But the result is magical.
A large, cold coconut drink with a straw and enough spillover to fill another cup. It is only served at the Hotel Cofresi and that is part of the experience. Sitting at their outdoor bar as the ocean crashes and the cool night air reminds you that you are on vacation and will have to go home soon.
